We arrived to windy and wet weather – not quite the hot sunshine we’d been hoping for! However on the plus side, the poor weather had brought in some nice seabirds and from the balcony, the last four days of March saw 4 European Storm Petrel, Pomarine and Great Skuas, Puffins, flocks of Greater Flamingos, a Hoopoe, good numbers of Balearic Shearwaters, Gannets, Sandwich Terns, up to 4 Whiskered Terns, a Common Scoter, several Razorbills and a Short- Eared Owl arriving over the sea.
Both Common and Pallid Swifts were arriving and a few Red-rumped Swallows. A large arrival of 232 Mediterranean Gulls and 6 Audouin’s Gull on the beach was a nice sight one afternoon.
A visit to the secret plain one afternoon did not disappoint as we had wonderful views of 10 Short-toed Larks, 2 Northern Wheatears, 8 Woodchat Shrikes, 3 Short-toed Eagles, 25 Booted Eagle, 3 Alpine Swift, 2 Common Redstarts, Pallid Swifts and Sand Martins.
