The tide was dropping and the sand bar appeared immediately opposite the balcony. During the morning <strong>5 Audouin\u2019s Gull, 2 Mediterranean Gulls , 7 Sandwich Terns and 58 Yellow- legged Gulls<\/strong> were seen. Early afternoon there was a commotion as an <strong>Osprey<\/strong> flew overhead. Nearby we could hear <strong>2<\/strong> <strong>Nightingales<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bushchat.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/P4010128.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1893\" width=\"1564\" height=\"1173\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bushchat.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/P4010128.webp 1564w, https:\/\/bushchat.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/P4010128-768x576.webp 768w, https:\/\/bushchat.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/P4010128-1536x1152.webp 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1564px) 100vw, 1564px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>1st April &#8211; a <strong>Kentish Plover<\/strong> was on the Sandbar and a <strong>Common Sandpiper<\/strong>. Two <strong>Audouin\u2019s Gulls<\/strong> flew out of the estuary whilst offshore <strong>7 Balearic Shearwaters<\/strong> flew past with <strong>5 Gannets<\/strong>. <strong>2 House Martins<\/strong> and a <strong>Swallow<\/strong> overhead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>April 2nd &#8211; a morning on the balcony. Heavy rain overnight and early morning brought in plenty of birds. Highlights were <strong>9 Slender-billed Gulls, 6 Gull-billed Terns, 7 Audouin\u2019s Gull, 90 Greater Flamingo, 2 Whimbrel, 2 Greenshank, 16 Black-winged Stilt and 27 Little Egret<\/strong>! We had a very good morning as we managed to see <strong>51 Puffins, 23 Razorbils, a Gull-billed Tern, an Audouin\u2019s Gull, 27 Balearic Shearwaters, 42 Gannets, 2 Arctic Skuas, 3 Whimbrel, 37 Sandwich Terns <\/strong>and a <strong>Western Marsh Harrier. <\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunday 6th April &#8211; a major arrival of <strong>Woodchat<\/strong> <strong>Shrikes<\/strong> overnight and 1 was seen on the bushes below the balcony. We searched the Tamarisks on the beach opposite the apartment and found a few migrant birds &#8211; <strong>4 Woodchats, 3 Willow Warblers, a Western Bonelli\u2019s Warbler, a Western Subalpine Warbler and 5 Reed Warblers<\/strong>. <strong>Four<\/strong> <strong>Whimbrel<\/strong> flew past and landed on the sandspit, whilst 2 <strong>Slender -billed Gulls<\/strong> and <strong>88 Greater Flamingos<\/strong> flew past. Here we found <strong>2 Hoopoes<\/strong>, <strong>180 Pallid Swifts, 9 Woodchats, a Booted Eagle<\/strong> and an <strong>Iberian Wagtail<\/strong>. We ended our day with a quick look at San Enrique Woods where we were surprised to find <strong>4 Hawfinches<\/strong>! And then at the Port we spent 20 mins at Las Camelias Pool at dusk.
